About the site
Map vs Reality is an educational site that visualises how map projections distort the apparent size of countries, alongside related geographic and factual content.
Use of the site
You're welcome to use the site for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:
- use the site in any way that breaks the law or infringes others' rights
- attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the site or its servers
- access the site using automated means (scraping, bots, harvesting) in a way that places unreasonable load on it or copies its content wholesale, without our permission
- copy, redistribute, or republish substantial portions of the site's content or design as your own
Accuracy of content
The site presents geographic data, comparisons, figures, and factual statements drawn from public datasets and reference sources. We work to keep this information accurate and up to date, but:
- the content is provided for general information and educational purposes only;
- map projections, area figures, and comparisons are necessarily approximations and simplifications;
- datasets can contain errors, become outdated, or be subject to differing interpretations (including disputed borders, names, and territories);
- we make no warranty or guarantee that any content is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose.
You should not rely on the site as a sole source for any decision, or for academic, legal, navigational, or official purposes. Always verify against authoritative primary sources. The depiction of borders, territories, and place names does not imply any political position or endorsement on our part.

The site's design, original text, layout, and software are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Underlying geographic data is derived from the Natural Earth dataset and remains subject to its own terms. You may share links to the site freely.
Third-party content and links
The site may reference or link to third-party sources and websites. We don't control these and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability.
No warranties
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We don't guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
