This policy explains what information Map vs Reality ("we", "us", "the site") collects when you visit mapvsreality.com, and what we do with it. The short version: we don't have accounts, we don't sell your data, we don't track you across the web, and we use a single privacy-friendly analytics tool.

What we collect
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or payment details. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.
We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the site is used. Umami does not use cookies and does not collect information that personally identifies you. The data it records is aggregated and may include:
- the pages you view and the order you view them in
- the website or link that referred you to us
- your approximate location (country or region), derived from your IP address
- your browser type, operating system, device type, and screen size
Your full IP address is not stored — it is used only momentarily to derive the above and is then discarded or anonymised. We cannot use this data to identify you personally.
Cookies
We do not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics. Because of this, there is no cookie consent banner — there is nothing to consent to. Your browser may store small amounts of data so the site can function and remember display preferences (such as light or dark theme), but this is not used to track you.
Why we collect it
We use analytics data only to understand overall usage and improve the site's content and performance. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating and improving the site, balanced against your privacy — which is why we chose a tool that doesn't identify individuals.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. Analytics data is processed on our behalf by Umami. We may disclose information only where required by law, or to protect the security and integrity of the site.
Where your data is processed
The site is hosted on Cloudflare's global network, and our analytics provider operates internationally, so data may be processed on servers in countries outside your own (including the United States and the European Union). Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on the safeguards offered by those providers as required by applicable law.
Data retention
Aggregated analytics data is retained only for as long as it is useful for understanding trends, and contains no personal identifiers.

The site links to external sources, datasets, and references. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of websites we link to. Please review their policies separately.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — including the right to access, correct, or delete it, or to object to its processing. Because we do not hold information that identifies you personally, we usually cannot link analytics data to a specific individual. Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
